Telling the story of courage and duty under fire, it has cemented Steven Spielberg’s reputation as one of the best filmmakers in the industry. It’s trite, and full of itself, masterbatory in its glorification of war, especially America’s love of its own role in WW2. Upvote. In Saving Private Ryan, the intro of storming the beach was a masterpiece. The big reveal at the end that the person in the graveyard isn't who you think it is makes for a compelling watch. It illustrated the chaos of war. Random people lived and random people died. That's why survivor's guilt is a legitimately big deal.

Yeah saving private Ryan was fantastic I do think in terms of set pieces Speilberg does blow his load too early because yes the other sequences are still fantastic but it never reached the levels of the first set piece but the storytelling overall was fantastic and a movie about finding meaning through the horrors of war and omg it is easily the best speilberg film in terms of cinematography

The viewer lurches from one battle scene to another as the search for Private Ryan goes on. We are spared nothing of the sacrifice, death and dark questioning whether it is all worthwhile. At the very end of the movie, Ryan is in a cemetery on his knees in front of Miller’s grave, giving him his gratitude for the sacrifices of Miller and his unit.
